Healthy Workplaces Lighten the Load

On 14 and 15 November 2022 the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) held the Healthy Workplaces Summit as a closing event of the Healthy Workplaces Lighten the Load 2020-22 campaign. More than 300 participants attended the event in Bilbao and even more joined online!

The Summit brought together leading European experts and decision makers to discuss the results of the campaign, as well as share knowledge and explore future strategies for the effective prevention of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) at work.

The event counted on the participation of EU Commissioner Nicolas Schmit, Spanish Minister of Labour and Social Economy Yolanda Díaz, Basque Minister of Labour and Employment Idoia Mendia, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs representing the Czech EU Council Presidency Kateřina Štěpánková, and Dragoş Pîslaru, Chair of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs of the European Parliament.
Researchers and representatives from national and European authorities contributed to the discussions in three parallel sessions on (1) challenges and innovative solutions for inspections of MSDs prevention in enterprises, (2) effective support for working with chronic MSDs, and (3) the link between MSDs and psychosocial risks.

One of the highlights of the event was the Healthy Workplaces Good Practice Awards ceremony, where eight award-winning organisations were recognised for their innovative approaches to manage and prevent work-related MSDs.

The Summit also addressed occupational safety and health in the new world of work, looking ahead to the next Healthy Workplaces 2023-25 campaign: ‘Safe and healthy work in the digital age’ to be launched in October 2023.

A summary of the Summit, recordings of all sessions and photos from the event are now available. We invite you to have a look!
